Ange Postecoglou does not seem prone to introspection and rarely succumbs to self doubt but maybe, just maybe, a little part of Tottenham’s manager wishes he had never left Glasgow. Things were so much simpler for the Australian when he was hoovering up trophies during his Celtic tenure. Back then Angeball not merely entertained but pretty much worked and he revelled in putting Rangers in their place. Such old certainties seemed cruel chimeras as Postecoglou failed to turn back time here, leaving his current Spurs players heading back to the airport nursing a record of only one win in their last eight matches. In truth a draw was the least Rangers deserved from a Battle of Britain punctuated by a soundtrack featuring renditions of “Sacked in the morning” aimed for Postecoglou’s ears. It was a bitterly cold night with temperatures hovering around freezing point by the Clyde but nothing could surely rival the inner chill Tottenham fans must have felt as they watched Philippe Clement’s side enhance their chances of direct progression to the Europa League’s knockout phase, leaving their guests contemplating the lottery of the playoffs following January’s final two initial stage games. Perhaps everyone had underestimated a Rangers side currently third in Scotland’s Premiership. After all they kicked off unbeaten in their previous eight fixtures and as Nedim Bajrami forced the excellent Fraser Forster into a fine save involving Tottenham’s former Celtic goalkeeper’s fingertips coming between the ball and the top corner it was easy to see why. By then Timo Werner was already underwhelming with every touch and a ferociously fast counterattacking Rangers dominated. At times Tottenham’s defence lived extremely dangerously with Forster required to save smartly from Vaclav Cerny before Bajrami somehow failed to connect with Jefté’s gloriously inviting cross that demanded to be tapped in from close range. After a slide to 11th in the Premier League and considerable debate about both the feasibility of “Angeball” and his own job security, Tottenham’s manager was in need of a restorative night on his first return to Govan but, instead, he looked increasingly stressed. For all his past success with Celtic Postecoglou won only one of his four visits to Ibrox with his old employers and here he could have done without needing to deploy Archie Gray out of position as an emergency centre-half in a defence badly missing, among others, the injured Micky van de Ven. When Forster again saved superbly from Cerny, with his feet this time, it was clear that Gray and co were struggling to cope with Rangers’ alacrity on the break. It did not help that the visitors treated the ball as a toxic object. With the exception of the efficient Yves Bissouma, they forfeited possession with alarming frequency as Clement’s players revelled in closing them down at ferociously high tempo, leaving James Maddison and co no time to sprinkle any stardust on proceedings. Rangers deservedly took the lead early in the second half. It started with a deep, lofted cross from James Tavernier and concluded with Hamza Igamane unleashing a sublime left footed shot that left Forster utterly helpless and Pedro Porro doubtless reflecting on how easily Igamane had dodged him. At least it served to galvanise Spurs and with Jack Butland finally making some important saves an equaliser beckoned. It finally arrived when Dominic Solanke and Maddison belatedly showed their class deconstructing the home rearguard before the substitute Dejan Kulusevski slipped a deceptive left-foot finish beyond Butland’s reach. Although Tavernier’s fine block subsequently denied Solanke, another substitute, a goal only further Forster brilliance prevented Cyriel Dessers from claiming a late home winner that would only have amplified those “sacked in the morning”choruses.Nexgel director Jerome Zeldis buys common stock worth $9,999

AP Sports SummaryBrief at 4:13 p.m. ESTRed Sox new-look bullpen taking shape, but questions remain
The Red Sox made their first big signing of the offseason Tuesday, inking veteran reliever Aroldis Chapman to a one-year, $10.75 million contract. The deal, which is pending a physical, also includes $250,000 in potential bonuses. Chapman confirmed the deal, posting a photo of himself in a Red Sox cap on social media. The Cuban-born lefty made his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2010. Since leaving Cincinnati in 2015, he’s primarily pitched for the New York Yankees (two stints), as well as the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, and Pittsburgh Pirates. One of MLB’s hardest-throwing pitchers, Chapman is a seven-time All-Star, was American League Reliever of the Year in 2019, and has won two World Series (’16 Cubs, ’23 Rangers). He also has the distinction of being the first Yankees pitcher to ever give up a home run to Rafael Devers, on Aug. 13, 2017 at Yankee Stadium. The signing, however, is a controversial move for the Red Sox. In 2016, Chapman became the first player ever suspended by Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association under their Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy , which they’d enacted in 2015. The then-Yankees closer served a 30-game suspension at the beginning of the ’16 season after an Oct. 30, 2015 incident at his Florida home. He fired a gun eight times in his garage, and his 22-year-old girlfriend alleged that he’d choked her. “I’m apologizing because of the use of the gun,” Chapman told reporters at spring training in March 2016. He acknowledged that he used “bad judgement,” but maintained that he never physically harmed his girlfriend. While prosecutors declined to prosecute due to conflicting accounts and insufficient evidence, MLB’s own investigation yielded enough to penalize Chapman. And unlike the performance-enhancing drug policy, players who serve DV suspensions are allowed to participate in that year’s postseason. Three days after the one-year anniversary of the incident that led to his suspension, Chapman picked up the win in Game 7 of the World Series, ending Chicago’s 108-year championship drought. In signing Chapman, the Red Sox are signaling a pivot in organizational values. Boston notably backed out of acquiring Chapman from Cincinnati during the 2015 Winter Meetings. The Dodgers then reached an agreement with the Reds, only to walk away for the same reason. After reports of Chapman’s incident surfaced and MLB opened an investigation, the Yankees traded for him on Dec. 28. A few years later, the Red Sox made a similar decision. Despite needing bullpen reinforcements at the 2018 trade deadline, then-president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made it clear that the club hadn’t pursed Toronto Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna, who was serving a 75-game DV suspension (and appearing in court) at the time. “We were not going that route,” manager Alex Cora told reporters before the Red Sox demolished Osuna and his new team, the Houston Astros, in that year’s ALCS. “After 2015, we agreed to send (top prospects Manuel) Margot and Marco Hernandez to the Reds for Chapman, but it fell apart when we discovered disturbing details about his domestic dispute,” former Red Sox assistant general manager Zack Scott wrote on X . “We actually informed the Reds about it. We pivoted to (Craig) Kimbrel, and Chapman went to the Yankees. I guess enough time has passed without incident for the Sox to be OK with it now.” You can find every Red Sox offseason update on the Boston Herald’s 2024-25 live tracker !

https://arab.news/2j36d ALBANY, N.Y.: New York on Friday repealed a seldom-used, more than century-old law that made it a crime to cheat on your spouse — a misdemeanor that once could have landed adulterers in jail for three months. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a bill repealing the statute, which dates back to 1907 and has long been considered antiquated as well as difficult to enforce. “While I’ve been fortunate to share a loving married life with my husband for 40 years — making it somewhat ironic for me to sign a bill decriminalizing adultery — I know that people often have complex relationships,” she said. “These matters should clearly be handled by these individuals and not our criminal justice system. Let’s take this silly, outdated statute off the books, once and for all.” Adultery bans are actually law in several states and were enacted to make it harder to get a divorce at a time when proving a spouse cheated was the only way to get a legal separation. Charges have been rare and convictions even rarer. Some states have also moved to repeal their adultery laws in recent years. New York defined adultery as when a person “engages in sexual intercourse with another person at a time when he has a living spouse, or the other person has a living spouse.” The state’s law was first used a few weeks after it went into effect, according to a New York Times article, to arrest a married man and 25-year-old woman. State Assemblymember Charles Lavine, sponsor of the bill, said about a dozen people have been charged under the law since the 1970s, and just five of those cases resulted in convictions. “Laws are meant to protect our community and to serve as a deterrent to anti-social behavior. New York’s adultery law advanced neither purpose,” Lavine said in a statement Friday. The state’s law appears to have last been used in 2010, against a woman who was caught engaging in a sex act in a park, but the adultery charge was later dropped as part of a plea deal. New York came close to repealing the law in the 1960s after a state commission tasked with evaluating the penal code said it was nearly impossible to enforce. At the time, lawmakers were initially on board with removing the ban but eventually decided to keep it after a politician argued that repealing it would make it seem like the state was officially endorsing infidelity, according to a New York Times article from 1965.None
Amanda Bynes steps out in LA after going public with her ongoing weight loss journeyLeave it to OMSI to offer a chemistry lesson at the ice rink. The new indoor synthetic ice rink at Portland’s science museum is made of high-density polyethylene plastic, created by Swiss company Glice . A sign next to the new rink shows the chemical structure of polymers like those in “Glice,” specifically engineered to replicate the smoothness of ice and produce a low coefficient of friction. “OMSI on Ice” is the museum’s first time hosting an indoor synthetic ice rink, and it’s the first holiday event the museum has hosted since it discontinued its “ Gingerbread Adventures ” program during the pandemic. “With this route, we’re going for something a little bit different, a little bit more active, and still having that community vibe,” said April Abate, OMSI’s director of membership and guest services. And OMSI has purchased the rink, so expect it to become a regular feature each winter. At 20 feet by 40 feet, this skating rink is tiny compared with the 50-by-100 temporary outdoor ice rink at the west end of the Morrison Bridge. The rink can be found inside OMSI’s auditorium, which has been turned into a cozy holiday oasis illuminated by Christmas lights. For children too young to skate, tables have been set up with board games and coloring activities. Lubricants are sprayed over the rink surface to allow for better gliding. During a preview day Friday, OMSI staff were still perfecting that lubricant-to-Glice ratio. While a staff member skated with ease during a demonstration, this reporter found it difficult, with not quite the same glide as real ice. If you’re looking for a true indoor ice skating experience, you’ll have better luck at Lloyd Center . But if you’re looking for a way to tire out the kids on a cold and rainy day, OMSI’s ice rink should do the trick. The skating rink is open during most of OMSI’s regular operating hours through Jan. 1. Tickets for 30-minute time slots can be reserved online, and up to 15 tickets can be purchased for each session. Tickets are $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for children ages 5 to 13, and half price for OMSI members. (And if you’re thinking of buying an OMSI membership, those are 20% off starting Nov. 23 .) Rink admission includes free skate rentals. Ice skating supports are also available. Learn more or buy tickets online at omsi.edu/exhibits/ice-rink . Looking for other places to ice skate? I'm A Celebrity's Ant and Dec cheekily called out Dean McCullough for a rule violation, leaving viewers in fits of laughter. The radio host has been one of the most discussed contestants this year after he dramatically quit trials early. In last night's episode, he was caught breaking show rules by sneaking a teabag into a pot of boiling water, much to the hosts' disapproval. During Friday's (November 22) episode of the ITV reality hit, Danny and Dean ventured down to the Bushtucker Trial area to face 'The High Street of Horrors'. Maura and Richard, shocked to learn they'd be joining them, also headed down to the Trial area for the day's Bushtucker Trial, unaware of what awaited them. Maura and Richard were the first to arrive and were greeted by Ant and Dec, who asked how they were finding the Jungle Junkyard. Ant and Dec informed the pair that since they successfully had a bed delivered from main camp the previous day, they won three portions of food for the junk food buffet. They were also told that the Trial was their next chance to keep up the pretence, as they had to convince Danny and Dean that they had already participated in 'The Deadly Department Store' to try and win 2 stars for their dinner, but failed. Maura and Richard dived headfirst into the act, smearing each other with feathers and molasses with exemplary theatrics. When Dean and Danny arrived, Ant quipped: "Dean welcome once again. Two out of the last three you shouted 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. I'm not angry anymore just disappointed.", reports the Express . He then briefed Dean and Danny on their impending Trial challenge details. It involved scouring three shops for stars that could earn them meals for camp within a set timeframe for their shopping spree. Beginning at the 'Grim Grocers', Dean and Danny had three minutes to secure three stars. A keen Danny raced into the shop so swiftly that he stumbled, while Dean faced his greatest fear—fish guts. With two stars won, they continued to the 'Electrifying Electrical store', snatching two more stars from a potential three in the time allotted. . The elusive star they missed was playfully revealed by Ant and Dec to be hidden inside the kettle, ribbing Dean with, "We thought you'd have gone straight for the kettle, we know you love a cup of tea! ". Afterwards, fans didn't miss a beat, flooding social media with reactions to the banter over Dean's rule infraction. One viewer took to X, formerly known as Twitter and said: "THE TEA SHADEEE I CANT #ImACeleb." Another commented: "Ant and dec are absolutely trolling dean now with stars in the kettle #ImACeleb" A third joked: ""How do you they know about the tea? "DEAN YOU ARE LITERALLY ON A REALITY SHOW WITH CAMERAS FILMING 24/7 #ImACeleb." One said: "We know how much you like a cup of tea dean? #ImACeleb." Meanwhile another added: "THEY PUT THE STAR IN THE KETTLE AHAHAHAHA DANNY IS LOVING THE TEA JOKES #ImACeleb." I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVXWEST PALM BEACH, Fla.— President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday threatened 100% tariffs against a bloc of nine nations if they act to undermine the U.S. dollar. His threat was directed at countries in the so-called BRIC alliance, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia have applied to become members and several other countries have expressed interest in joining. While the U.S. dollar is by far the most-used currency in global business and has survived past challenges to its preeminence, members of the alliance and other developing nations say they are fed up with America’s dominance of the global financial system. The dollar represents roughly 58% of the world’s foreign exchange reserves, according to the IMF and major commodities like oil are still primarily bought and sold using dollars. The dollar’s dominance is threatened, however, with BRICS’ growing share of GDP and the alliance’s intent to trade in non-dollar currencies — a process known as de-dollarization. Trump, in a Truth Social post, said: “We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy.” At a summit of BRIC nations in October, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the U.S. of “weaponizing” the dollar and described it as a “big mistake.” What to know about Trump’s second term: Staffing the administration: Here are the people Trump has picked for key positions so far. Plus, a look at recess appointments and how could Trump use them to fill his Cabinet. Follow all of our coverage as Donald Trump assembles his second administration. “It’s not us who refuse to use the dollar,” Putin said at the time. “But if they don’t let us work, what can we do? We are forced to search for alternatives.” Russia has specifically pushed for the creation of a new payment system that would offer an alternative to the global bank messaging network, SWIFT, and allow Moscow to dodge Western sanctions and trade with partners. Trump said there is “no chance” BRIC will replace the U.S. dollar in global trade and any country that tries to make that happen “should wave goodbye to America.” Research shows that the U.S. dollar’s role as the primary global reserve currency is not threatened in the near future. An Atlantic Council model that assesses the dollar’s place as the primary global reserve currency states the dollar is “secure in the near and medium term” and continues to dominate other currencies. Trump’s latest tariff threat comes after he threatened to slap 25% tariffs on everything imported from Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% tax on goods from China, as a way to force the countries to do more to halt the flow of illegal immigration and drugs into the U.S. He has since held a call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who said Thursday she is confident that a tariff war with the United States can be averted. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau returned home Saturday after meeting Trump, without assurances the president-elect will back away from threatened tariffs on Canada. Source: AP
